MONSTER COCKROACH OF THE SEA WOWS THE WEB

An enormous crustacean that attached itself to a submarine scouring the depths of the Gulf of Mexico is eliciting shock, awe and a touch of skepticism among Web readers, but scientists say the critter is just an impressive example of a supersized species.
Photos of the beast were posted on Reddit, under the title “By God, it’s a monster!” by a user who said he worked for a deep sea surveying company. His crew found the creature hooked onto the bottom of a remotely operated vehicle, and estimated that the behemoth, which measures 2 1/2 feet long, was creeping along at a depth of about 8,500 feet.
Online investigations also helped identify the critter, which is a Bathynomus giganteus, or giant isopod. The crustaceans are related to shrimp and crabs, and are thought to dwell in the deep seas of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Giant isopods might make tasty prey, but they’re also hungry predators: The scavengers feast on carcasses of dead whales and fish. They have been known to attack sea-dwellers that are still alive and swimming.
That zealous appetite is probably one reason they’ve survived so long: Fossil records date these cockroaches of the sea back more than 160 million years, before the Earth’s continents were even formed.

TEAHUPOO'S FIRST REALLY BIG SWELL FOR 2010

Some of the best big wave surfers were at Teahupoo recently to shred the first really big swell of 2010. It was large in the morning but it continued to grow in size throughout the day. These guys are so gnarly, my hats goes off to every single one of them for charging these waves. INSANE!

THE KING OF HEROIN FINALLY ARRESTED IN MEXICO

Mexican police hailed the capture yesterday of the “King of Heroin”, one of the country’s most powerful drug barons, a major victory in the murderous drug war.
José Antonio Medina, allegedly responsible for smuggling thousands of pounds of heroin into the US each year, was arrested in the western state of Michoacán and is being held for prosecution.
Mr Medina, 36, allegedly ran a complex smuggling operation that sent 200kg of heroin each month into southern California for La Familia drug cartel, said Ramon Pequeño, head of the anti-narcotics division of Mexico’s federal police.

The exoskeleton promises to make a difference to many areas of military and civilian life alike. As demonstrated in the video below, soldiers will be able to do what they need to for longer. Meaning a soldier’s efficiency will be greatly increased. The further applications are yet to be tested, but refined models should be able to assist those with physical disabilities, not to mention the possibility for a commercial edition. SETH ENSLOW BREAKS WOLRLD RECORD FOR LONGEST JUMP ON A HARLEY

 Seth is a real cool dude. We camped with him at Ocotillo Wells moto park in 2008, he goes big and knows how to party it up. Check out the article of his latest jumps.

Seth Enslow has made history by setting a new world record for a long distance jump on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The Crusty Demons star broke Bubba Blackwell’s record set in Las Vegas 1999 by 18 feet (5.4m) with a jump of 183.7 feet (56m) at Sydney’s Barangaroo.
The jump was seen as recreating an unforgettable Harley Davidson benchmark set by Evel Knievel in 1975.

 

Enslow had to take the jump twice, after the viewing media missed the first jump.
The star was scheduled to make his record jump at 9.30am (AEDT) but he took the jump at 8.45am with only a third of the press there. He broke the record with that jump but was forced to take it again when he realized the press had missed it.
Luckily for him, he lengthened his lead by a further 8.7 feet (2.65m) on his second attempt.

Seth has a reputation for trying to break world records. He attempted the overall distance record back in 1999, riding a custom Honda bike.
In that attempt, he overshot his landing ramp and smashed his head against the handlebars of his bike, crushing his eye socket.
He has since made more record breaking attempts as part of the Crusty Demons Night of Records in 2008.

TRUCK DESTROYS HIGHWAY BRIDGE

A dump truck driver in Turkey forgets to drop his truck bed and obliterates a pedestrian foot bridge over a highway. Three people were severely injured, but everyone survived! wow.
Notice the guy on the left of the bridge who stops, realizes the truck is going to hit the bridge and just stares at it all happening right in front of him. Good thing he wasn't in a hurry that day. Gnarly!

HIKING ADVENTURE IN THE FOOTHILLS, IN THE RAIN

Well in Southern Cali it doesn't rain too often. We were on day 3 of heavy rains and stuck indoors going crazy and you can only do so many bt's B ) So what else to do other then grab the rain gear and go on a little hike in the rain and we did. Into the rain we began out short adventure. Luckily there were no flash floods but we were prepared for that and knew the mountain pretty well and you better no the mountain really well during a rain. Momma "N"(Mother Nature) sure is an awesome place, and a totally different atmosphere while covered in the cool rain, but she can easily swallow you whole. We were looking good as the rain was mellow for the storm. We were about an hour up the mountain and climbed around 900 ft. per the gps unit. There were a few cliffs from land slides and rock slides but that was the fun of it, trekking through the thristy as hell mountains during a good rain. The rain soon became heavy once we reached the top(thank god). So we decided to sprint down to the bottom on our return route. Success and safety was reached! Oh yeah, and we found this cool little salamander crossing the trail evacuating the growing river of water at the bottom of the mountain. Stay tuned for snow adventures

We hit up some local trails up in the hills and finished the day with a 90 mile adventure. This is a small practice for the future Whistler, Canada adventure this summer around July, Stay tuned and check out the videos and pics from my mobile phone camera.
